Accessibility at the Château de Castelnaud
Tourism & Disability
Since June 2026, the Château de Castelnaud has held the “Tourisme & Handicap” french label for hearing and intellectual disabilities. This recognition highlights our commitment to offering a more accessible visitor experience.
Numerous measures have been implemented to facilitate visits for people with disabilities: the provision of maps indicating areas with high light contrast, zones that might trigger vertigo, or noisier spaces; subtitles for all videos shown in the château; a hearing loop at the reception desk; the availability of a wheelchair; virtual reality headset tours; and visitor guides in Braille and Easy-to-Read/Easy-to-Understand (FALC) formats.
Our teams remain attentive to individual needs in order to provide the best possible support to visitors with disabilities.
These resources are currently available only in French.
Association “Les Lieux Racontent”
Alice Kepler, the association’s founder, kindly visited Château de Castelnaud. As someone with a physical disability herself, she tested and approved the facilities designed for our visitors with disabilities.
The association has therefore created a “Para-experience” grid to inform the relevant individuals about accessibility at the Château de Castelnaud.

IMMERSIVE TOUR
As if you were there!
To enable everyone to discover the Château de Castelnaud, a tour has been specially designed for visitors with reduced mobility who are unable to access the monument due to slopes and numerous steps.
Equipped with a virtual reality headset, the visitor is guided through all the castle’s rooms for 30 minutes by a guide in period costume, enjoying the interiors and 360-degree panoramic views.
A lively and accessible experience, offered free of charge in French, so that everyone can fully enjoy the richness of our heritage.
Free parking spaces reserved for disability card holders are located in the village near the town hall and in the upper visitor car park.
A reduced rate is offered to people with reduced mobility for daytime visits, upon presentation of their card.
Due to the many stairs, the interior of the castle is inaccessible to wheelchair users. However, access to the exterior remains possible and free of charge.
Ask for the materials designed to make your visit more comfortable:
- braille visitor guide
- castle floor plans indicating areas of intense light, sudden noises, and risk of vertigo
- Visitor guide in Easy-to-Read and Easy-to-Understand (FALC) format in French
We also offer guided tours—by reservation—tailored to individuals unable to participate in standard tours.
Please inquire with the reception team.
